Alex E. Baum, MD, was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. During his childhood years Dr. Baum also lived in New York. Dr. Baum completed a 7 year combined MD program at The Universidad Central de Venezuela School of Medicine in 1992, graduating in the top 15% of his class.
Dr. Baum moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1995 and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine in 1998 and a Gastroenterology Fellowship in 2001 at Tulane University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Baum also trained in Endosonography (EUS) at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital prior to joining the faculty of Tulane University Medical School where he served as Assistant Professor of Medicine for three years prior to going into private practice in New Orleans. He is a member of the AGA, ASGE and ACG. Dr. Baum relocated to Memphis in 2007 to join Gastro One.
Dr. Baum and his wife, Sarah, live in Memphis with their two sons. He enjoys swimming and spending time with his family. Dr. Baum speaks English and Spanish.
